Remote work in construction and healthcare
Commercial construction roles can. Estimating, quantity surveying, cost planning, and contract administration are document and model work, and are routinely advertised as home-based or hybrid. Site management, supervision, and inspection cannot be — those require presence on site every day.
Teleradiology reporting, remote triage and clinical advice lines, clinical coding, and audit roles are the genuinely home-based ones. Most are Band 6 and above, or consultant-level sessional work, because they require independent decision-making without on-site supervision.
Not always. Many roles advertised as remote still require occasional site or trust attendance, so employers set a commuting radius. Check the listing for a stated base location, and be careful with London-weighted salaries — those usually assume London attendance.
Not in these sectors. Remote construction and healthcare roles are concentrated in senior commercial and clinical work, so advertised pay tends to sit at or above the equivalent on-site role. What changes is the loss of London weighting or site allowances.
